Congratulations, Sean!

In December, Mrs. White presented her 7th-grade English Language Arts students with the opportunity to enter the League of Cities “If I Were Mayor Essay Contest”. The contest was open to students across the state of Iowa to write an essay about how they would take on the role of mayor in their own town or city. Participants were judged on creativity, clarity, sincerity of thought, and proper grammar usage.

One student was selected from each of our state’s four congressional districts and each of these students was awarded a $250 college scholarship and was invited to attend a ceremony with Governor Reynolds. Sean Wu was selected as our congressional district’s contest winner!

On April 5, he and his family attended the ceremony, at the capital, where he was named the statewide contest winner and was awarded the grand prize of a $500 college scholarship.

Congratulations, Sean! What an honor!

A Wish Come True

On Thursday Gilbert High Schooler, Amy Stanton was granted a “She Shed” made by her fellow classmates. The Gilbert High shop class worked Make-A-Wish to make this “She Shed” not knowing it was for Amy.

Amy was Diagnosed with a brain tumor and has put up a strong fight for a couple years. She has never let anything dull her shine. She has had two brain surgeries and continues to fight. This “She Shed” will be used as a cozy place for Amy to reflect and have a place for herself.

Thank you to our Building Trade class teacher, Danny Jones, Ames Home Builders Association, and Make-A-Wish for making this wish a reality.

Thank You From Winterset!

On March 5th, 2022 there was a devastating tornado that hit Winterset Iowa. All of the Gilbert Community Schools hosted fundraisers to try to raise money and/or supplies for the citizens of Madison County.

We hosted a hat fundraiser where students could pay $1 to wear a hat for a day. We also held free will donations for supplies for the Winterset community.

We were able to donate a total of $2,394.60 as well as 3 full totes of supplies for the community!

We wanted to share this with you all and thank you for the donations! We could not have done this without your help!

April Fools Fun!

A few teachers around the district had some April fools fun! Mrs. Ostrem has a scientist of the month board that students help her decorate each month. These boys took it over today and made Dr. Doofenshmitrz from Phineas and Ferb the scientist of the day! Mrs. Weber brought the students brownies (brown E’s)!
