High School Basketball Updates

Boys Basketball: The high school boys basketball team (15-4) became HOIC champions last week. After two more regular season games, they will compete in the regional tournament for a chance to go to state. Their first round game is set for February 24th at 6:30pm in Norwalk vs. Nevada.


Girls Basketball: The girls basketball team–currently ranked 8th in 4A–will compete in the substate tournament in hopes of making it to state. With a first round bye, they’ll face the winner of Knoxville and Des Moines Hoover in Gilbert on Saturday, February 22nd at 5pm.

New Providence: Sophomore Ava Hawthorne is starring in a new movie about 6v6 basketball that’s set to be released the week of the state basketball tournament. To read more about this story, click here.

Lundt Now Head Coach of HS Football Team

Graham Lundt, who teaches health and PE at the high school, as well as being a coach for the Tiger Strength and Conditioning program, is now the head coach of the high school football team. With previous experience coaching at Akron-Westfield, Ankeny, and Ames, and having already been the assistant coach at Gilbert, he is excited to take on this new role. Below is a welcome letter sent to the families of Gilbert football players.


HS Swimmers Qualify for State

Two Gilbert high school students–senior Drew Hawthorn and sophomore Eli Houseman–qualified to swim at the state meet in Iowa City on Saturday, February 15th. Hawthorn will be swimming in the Men’s 50 and 100 Yard Freestyle and Houseman will compete in the Men’s 200 Yard IM. For more information on the event, you can click here.

Elementary Day of Play!

After working hard and testing for many weeks, students at the Elementary School earned an entire ‘Day of Play!’. From puzzles, to painting, to dance parties, and more, all students were encouraged to have fun & be creative with how they spent their day!
