Bonthuis Finalist for PAEMST Award

Congratulations to Angie Bonthuis for being a finalist for the PAEMST Award. Angie is a kindergarten teacher at Gilbert for 21 years.

Teachers are selected based on their distinction in the classroom and dedication to improving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.

The PAEMST program, administered by the National Science Foundation (NSF) on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, recognizes outstanding teachers for their contributions to the teaching and learning of mathematics and science.

PAEMST is the highest recognition that a kindergarten-through-12th grade mathematics or science (including computer science) teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States. Since 1983, more than 5,000 teachers nationwide have been recognized for this honor.

Winners will be announced later this year.

2021-2022 Preschool Sign-Up on February 1st

Children who will be 4 years old by September 15, 2021 are eligible for preschool. If you are interested in signing your child up for preschool, please call the elementary office at 515-232-3744. While out of district students can apply, we do give priority to district residents first, then students with currently open enrolled siblings, and finally out of district students new to Gilbert.

Gilbert’s preschool program meets 4 days a week. We have a morning session from 8:05-11:05, and an afternoon session from 12:15-3:15pm. Students can ride the bus to school for the morning session, but parents will need to pick up at 11:05. The afternoon session students can ride the bus home, but parents will need to bring them to school at 12:15.

Gilbert preschool participates in the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program, and is free to parents. Please contact the elementary office at 232-3744 with any questions.

Currently, all of our openings are for our afternoon program.
