We have an event coming up this month that I would like to be sure to highlight for our community members.  We will be hosting a community conversation regarding mental health in our school on October 26th, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the high school.  Topics covered include eating disorders, anxiety, self-harm, grief and depression and suicide.  We have seen a rise amongst students with mental health issues, and we want to be proactive in helping teachers and parents become better equipped to deal with students who are struggling.  There is no shame in fighting a mental illness, and we want to be supportive and helpful in as many ways as we can.  Our guidance department is leading the way on this so please consider attending this informational evening.

This week we will begin our NWEA testing that helps us measure growth in our students from last year.  It also helps teachers with data about areas we may need to take a closer look at and employ new strategies.  Please make sure you children get plenty of rest and a good breakfast!

The Gilbert FFA recently hosted a luncheon barbeque this past week.   They grilled burgers, added chips, drink and cookies and sold the lunches to anyone in school who was interested.  The meal was delicious and all of the proceeds went to help the residents of St. John who have been affected by the recent hurricanes.  Well done!

The theater department is hard at work preparing for the fall musical Seussical!  My wife tells me that they are making great progress and have a lot of talent to showcase.  Show times are November 3rd and 4th, 7:00 pm,  at the high school auditorium.  Mark your calendars and come for a fun evening of entertainment.

I’d also like to wish all of our athletic teams luck as they head into tournament play.  Our volleyball girls are currently ranked 6th and our boys cross country has been consistently ranked in the top two. Check the school website for upcoming opportunities to support our young athletes.

We will have some community meetings coming up soon regarding our bond issue and the projects we are looking to complete to manage our growth.  We will keep you well informed about where and when those meetings are and welcome community input.
