The Gilbert Community School District is always working to provide resources and support for our families. Below are some local resources to help with basic needs like food, shelter, etc.
COVID-19 Resources: United Way – United Way has put together a comprehensive list and links of resources for families in Story County. Resources include:
- Financial help including budgeting and money management
- Childcare support
- Food Assistance
- International immigrant help
- Internet/phone assistance
- Job openings and unemployment information
- Mental health supports
- Shelter updates
- Volunteer opportunities/ways to give.
Story County Food Resources – This is an additional resource from United Way specific to food pantries and grab and go type meals throughout Story County.
The Gilbert Community School District has a program to help families bridge gaps with food insecurity. Through the thoughtful donation of district patrons, a bag of groceries for each child in your home can be picked up at the Gilbert Lutheran Church every Tuesday and Friday between 9-5. Their address is 135 School St, Gilbert, IA 50105.
The church does not know any names, though we provide a number to ensure they have enough bags. If you are interested in participating, contact your school office. We are forever grateful for the local volunteers making this happen.
