  • Childcare support
  • Food Assistance
  • International immigrant help
  • Internet/phone assistance
  • Job openings and unemployment information
  • Mental health supports
  • Shelter updates
  • Volunteer opportunities/ways to give.

Story County Food Resources – This is an additional resource from United Way specific to food pantries and grab and go type meals throughout Story County.

Backpack Buddies

The Gilbert Community School District has a program to help families bridge gaps with food insecurity.  Through the thoughtful donation of district patrons, a bag of groceries for each child in your home can be picked up at the Gilbert Lutheran Church every Tuesday and Friday between 9-5. Their address is 135 School St, Gilbert, IA 50105.

The church does not know any names, though we provide a number to ensure they have enough bags. If you are interested in participating, contact your school office.  We are forever grateful for the local volunteers making this happen.
