We, the administration team and school board, have been working on the three-five year priorities and goals for the district.  We tried something new this year and invited a number of stakeholders in for an evening to break into small discussion groups to answer a few questions.  Facilitators from the AEA came for the meeting and facilitated the discussions so people would feel more free to answer honestly. The stakeholder groups included community/government members, parents, teachers and support staff, recent graduates, and current students.  As the discussions were being held, scribes were taking notes of what was being said, anonymously, and that data was collected by board members and administrators. They constructed a Wordle of terms that kept coming up in the discussions to check for trends. We will be taking a look at the notes and those prominent terms to help us set our district three to five year priorities.  The discussions were very illuminating and the feedback invaluable. We will keep you posted on any of the decisions that are reached in the near future.

We are excited about the upcoming Gilbert Education Foundation’s annual Rock Hop “Luau for Learning”.  This will be held on February 16, 2019 starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Quality Inn and Suites in Ames. They have games, a silent auction, a buffet dinner, and live auction planned for the evening’s entertainment.  All of the proceeds go to the district to help out with many of the “extras” we would be unable to afford otherwise. Please consider coming out for a great evening of fun and fellowship with other Gilbert parents and stakeholders.

Our boy’s and girl’s basketball teams are currently ranked and a lot of fun to watch.  Our wrestling team won their tournament this past weekend as well. There are many opportunities to come out and enjoy all of our athletic teams this winter.  You can find the dates and times on our activities calendar on the website. You will also find the dates and times for upcoming vocal and band concerts for all age levels.  District speech contest is also around the corner and our performers are working hard on their entries. Best of luck to all of our participants!
